My Story

I'm Prophet Parris, the face and hands of Heritage & Vine. I was raised in East Montgomery County, off the Red Line (D.C.) Grew into my trans-manhood in Harlem, NYC and came into my own traipsing across Baltimore (Morgan State Univ. '21). In every city-scape, I have sought the trees and parks as my space of rest and recovery. I have dove into history and books as my refuge.

I say I'm the face and hands of H&V because I'm guided by spirits of art, education, connection, and revolution.

I started with rootwork (aka. 'herbalism') as a birthright, while knowing that western medicine has its place too. My mother has lupus - and her life's been saved countless times by quality hospital care, but also she was the one to introduce roots as medicine like coffee and ginger.

I'm queer, as in 'if what you do ain't harming others - we good.' - and - 'we stand for liberation for marginalized peoples here'. I welcome you.

My life, as all of our lives, is a series of transitions. From pro-sports to HBCU scholarship. From the Black Church Choir to lifting my voice in new ceremony. From STEM to Social Work to combining those forces to rediscover, modernize, and share generational Black solutions to our every-day ailments to the public.

Heritage & Vine is a result of decades of growth. I followed my visions like path markers and the winding road has led to this expression of history and self. It is a journey in progress. I'm here to share as I go. So please join in, follow the socials, hit me up. We're just beginning.

Our Mission

Heritage & Vine is an Afro-American botanica dedicated to providing quality, handcrafted beauty, health, and wellness products. We are making a new world by dreaming and being what we haven't seen in recent times. I'm a Black, multi-queer Rootworker. H&V is scholarship of the craft. I'm primed and ready to make products and programs that center those at the margins and believe that what is centered on us is of great service to the wider world.
